It has been 20 years since I wrote this article about an exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). It was about how artists under the heel of Facism took a different path, uninfluenced by the cultures of the West. Timothy Benson was, like myself, a graduate of the University of Iowa. This was written for the Alumni magazine but never published. I'm not sure why. It was a really interesting exhibtion. Perhaps LACMA failed to provide pictures or wanted fees for their use, a problem I encountered with other museums with a genius for killing their own publicity.
